English Department


The English Department within the Salalah College of Applied Sciences operates three different types of course:

These are

  1. Foundation Year General and Academic English
  2. First Year Academic English
  3. Second Year Academic English

 

Each of these programs fulfills a unique role within the college. The English Teachers Program is designed for students majoring in English to be able to go out and teach English to High School students on completion of their degree.

The Foundation Program’s purpose is to ensure that students have a good grasp of English in readiness for them to undertake courses such as IT, Communication and Design which are all undertaken in English within the college.

The Year One and Year Two students also undertake English as part of their degree.

Objectives

The English Department has as its stated vision “to provide and administer a professional, committed, appropriate and fair level of English language education to the students of Sur College of Applied Sciences”.

It is the intention of the English Department to create for each student a linguistic and cross-cultural environment where language learning encompasses the competencies students must acquire in order to achieve success in both their educational experience and in their future careers.

In order to achieve this goal it has a set of objectives.

These are namely concerned with encouraging students to use the English language to be able to interact with each other and to facilitate the ability to undertake the courses which are all conducted in English within the college.

 

Structure

The English Department is supervised by a Head of Department.

There are three programmed coordinators, who assist in the administration of Foundation, First Year and Second Year Levels, plus an E-Learning coordinator, a Testing and Assessment Coordinator and a coordinator for Curriculum and Development.

Teachers also undertake a number of sub-coordinator roles and act as Academic Adviser, as well as their general teaching duties.
